Abuse Survivor Rebukes New Zealand Churches For Failed Apologies Must Acknowledge Evil Done In Gods Name

Abuse survivor rebukes New Zealand churches for failed apologies

Survivor calls for acknowledgment of evil done in God's name

An abuse survivor in New Zealand has called for a proper apology from the Catholic Church and other religious institutions for the harm they have caused. The survivor, who is of Pasifika descent, said that the apologies that have been made so far have not been enough.

"They [the Church] need to acknowledge the evil that has been done in God's name," the survivor said. "They need to say that what happened was wrong, and that they are sorry for the pain that they have caused."

The survivor's call for a proper apology comes after a number of New Zealand churches have apologized for their role in the abuse of children. In 2019, the Catholic Church in New Zealand apologized for the "pain and suffering" caused by abuse within the church. However, the survivor said that this apology was not enough.

"It was a good start, but it was not enough," the survivor said. "They need to go further and acknowledge the evil that has been done."

The survivor's call for a proper apology has been supported by other survivors of abuse. A group of abuse survivors in New Zealand has launched a campaign called "Say Sorry, Do Better" to demand a proper apology from the Catholic Church.
